Teenage Psychiatric Hospital: Why Choose Us?
Teenage mental health issues need specialized care. We offer age-appropriate treatment focused on healing and building resilience and strength.
When your teenager is experiencing a mental health issue, you can feel helpless. At Brooke Glen Behavioral Hospital, we understand how hard that can be. We’re here for your child and your family.
We offer 24/7 short-term care for teens ages 13 to 17. Our inpatient mental health services provide a pathway for healing in a warm and empathetic atmosphere.
At Brooke Glen, you can find:
- Focused care: We divide the 22-bed unit into two smaller groups to provide focused, individualized care. This arrangement fosters a sense of community and gives kids a chance to connect with their therapists and peers.
- Family-centered care: Families matter here. The support you provide to your child is invaluable. You regularly communicate with our social workers and can be involved as much as possible. We also encourage you to visit your child during their stay. When it’s time for your child to return home, you can take part in family sessions to prepare for the transition.
- Caring staff: Our psychiatrists, therapists, nurses and support staff are invested in your child’s well-being. We work together to create a welcoming and therapeutic place for teens to heal and feel better.
- Structure: Teens need structure in their lives, and they get that here. They participate in a schedule of therapy, school and activities. The predictable and supportive routine provides stability and can reduce feelings of anxiety.
- Educational support: Our on-site school is in session daily. We work with your child’s home school so their education continues while they’re with us. We also coordinate with school counselors, social workers and psychologists regarding their treatment and plans for a return to school.

What to Expect
Days at Brooke Glen have a regular rhythm. We create a space where teens can develop coping skills and begin their recovery. Most adolescents stay with us for 12 to 14 days.
Here’s what your teen can expect on a typical day:
- Morning routine: Wake up, get ready for the day and take any needed medications.
- Meals: Eat breakfast and other meals in the cafeteria.
- School: Participate in two hours of school each day.
- Community meeting: Come together to share goals for the day and other thoughts. Community meetings can set a positive tone for the day ahead.
- Group therapy: Discuss challenges and share experiences in sessions led by experienced therapists. Talk about coping skills, healthy relationships and setting boundaries.
- Individual therapy: Have one-on-one therapy sessions with the psychiatrist (for teens who need this).
- Outside time: Enjoy time outdoors. This less structured time can reduce stress and contribute to overall well-being.
- Evening wrap-up: Share successes and challenges, reflecting and processing the day’s experiences.

Expressive arts therapies
We offer a range of therapeutic approaches that complement traditional talk therapy. Art therapies offer teens different ways to express themselves and learn more about their thoughts, feelings and behaviors.
These therapies offer opportunities for processing trauma and healing in different ways from traditional therapy. Therapies we offer include:
- Art therapy
- Dance therapy
- Music and movement therapy
- Recreational therapy
- Yoga
We also get weekly visits from our furry friend Candy, a goldendoodle certified by the Alliance of Therapy Dogs.
Social and community engagement
Kids want to have typical experiences even while in the hospital. Friday coffee groups are a fun and rewarding way to close the week. Teens may also go on short community outings. These outings help teens connect with the world beyond the hospital. They offer social interactions and boost independence.
Positive reinforcement
Our system motivates and rewards teens who work toward their treatment goals and participate in their recovery journey. Your child can earn points for special privileges like purchasing personal comfort items.
Substance use disorder support
Brooke Glen isn’t a substance use disorder treatment center. However, we can help teens with substance use disorders and support their sobriety.
Discharge Planning
Transitioning to life outside of the hospital takes the commitment of the teenager, their loved ones and their school. We meet with your child and family to plan that transition, discussing concerns and expectations. This process helps create a smooth transition that supports the teen and the whole family.
We also work with your child’s school to figure out the appropriate timing and method for back-to-school plans. Some teens may benefit from time in outpatient therapy before returning to school.
